Amperage stored in the batteries must flow through all of the components at an equal rate on it's way to the motor.
If one of the components is choking the flow down you will not get the performance you should.
We hear from people who say I bought this part here and this part there and my cart goes slow or the F&R is getting hot .....
It usually a case of mismatched parts or cheap parts not proven to hold up to the demands we make upon our carts! The components listed below are proven to perform well together under the toughest conditions. They have been tested under the worst conditions by the dumbest drivers we could find. LOL
1st. Weight or Load. Do you have a rear seat? Will extra passengers be on board? Will you tow a trailer or a cargo box to haul feed?
2nd. Terrain. What kind of terrain will you be driving in? Anything from paved streets to muddy bogs and deep sand can be encountered depending upon your use. Generally the steeper the hills and softer the footing is the more power it is going to take to negotiate it.
3rd. Speed. What is your target speed? Golf Cart brakes are designed for Golf (15mph max.) Keep this in mind... The new 2 wheel cable disc brakes are priced so everybody can afford them. 4th. Tires. What size tires will you be wanting to run? Tire size changes are actually gear changes for the carts drive system. The taller the tire the more top end speed you will have and the greater the loss of power to get there... Crazy big tires are just that. Don't wind up all show & no go! Really big tires will need really big motors & controllers to run them. Email me we can talk about it.
Electric motors consume amperage as they work. Speed controllers limit the amount of amperage a motor can draw at any given time. Controllers do not force amperage upon a motor they allow the motor to draw X amount. X being the controller rating divided by the peddle position. Think of the controller like a valve in a water pipe. The amps flow like water & the bigger the valve the bigger the delivery. But this big valve will do no good if you have small pipes! (see cable upgrade page)
Generally speaking a 400 amp controller will handle most Street applications in both 36 volt carts and 48 volt conversions. A 36v motor run on 48v produces a 25-33% increase in torque and speed. The motor consumes less amperage on higher voltage and this reduces heat (a motors worst enemy) and increases run time....
Off Road enthusiasts, Hunting Buggies, & Carts used for hauling Farm & Ranch materials should use a 500 amp controller.
Anyone looking to upgrade their motor for more speed or torque should consider a 500 amp controller.
Today's controller manufactures are advocating 2 gauge cables on all 500 amp & up controllers.
We have used 4g with big controllers in the past without a fire but, were we missing some potential? Apparently some engineers think so..... and they are hard to argue with.

Series Carts Series drive system carts are the workhorse carts. They are not as FAST as their sepex (separately excited) cousins. But series wound motors produce more torque at lower temperatures.
Series carts can be Club Car, Ezgo, Yamaha, Melex, Taylor Dunn and more
They can have 0-5k, 5k-0, or ITS throttle inputs. The throttle and the controller must be matched.

Note I have a super-duty 400/1000 amp solenoid which works for both 36 and 48 volts.
So if you are upgrading your controller & solenoid now and planning to boost your voltage next year this is the solenoid for you. Check them out in the B packages below like pkg 101B.
If you are looking to up grade some now and more later, Pkg #202 might just be what you need. We can limit the out put for your stock motor now and you can reprogram it for more amperage later when you get the new motor or increase voltage. ALL of the controllers listed below work with 36-48 volts.

DCS & PDS carts can be used for off road use with some caution. These sepex motors tend to develop more heat that a series motor does. In sustained high torque situations this could be detrimental to the motor. And in some cases the motor and the controller could be damaged.
You would want to avoid any stall situation, where you were asking the cart to go when it could not. Or extended periods of time at very low speed like creeping through the woods. Creeping on tall tires uphill could overheat your sepex motor, they just are not as suited to this task as a series motor .... I hope this helps.
